FOOTBALL: 11 Countries Have Already Qualified For the 2022 World Cup

3. Denmark (UEFA Group F Winner) on Oct 12
4. Brazil (One of CONMEBOL’s 4 top teams) on Nov 11
5. Belgium (UEFA Group E Winner) on Nov 13
6. France (UEFA Group D Winner) on Nov 13
7. Serbia (UEFA Group A Winner) on Nov 14
8. Spain (UEFA Group B Winner) on Nov 14
9. Croatia (UEFA Group H Winner) on Nov 14
10. Switzerland (UEFA Group C Winner) on Nov 15
11. England (UEFA Group I Winner) on Nov 15

Qatar secured its slot in December 2010 when it won the bid to host the World Cup.

Allocation of World Cup spots are as follows:
HOST COUNTRY: 1 slot
EUROPE: 13 slots
AFRICA: 5 slots
ASIA: 4.5 slots
SOUTH AMERICA: 4.5 slots
NORTH & CENTRAL AMERICA/CARIBBEAN: 3.5 slots
OCEANIA: 0.5 slots
TOTAL = 32 slots

“Half” slots earned by teams send them to a pair of intercontinental playoffs for the last 2 places in the field. It has not yet been determined which regions will be paired for the playoffs.

The World Cup will be held from 12 Nov – 18 Dec. 2022 in Qatar, with a total of 32 teams. The one after that, the 2026 World Cup, will be expanded to 48 teams.

STATUS OF QATAR 2022 AFRICAN QUALIFIERS
The bottom 28 teams played home and away matches; the other 40 teams were split into 10 groups of 4 teams that vied for the final qualifying play-offs. Winners of each group earn a spot in the last round, in which they will play home and away matches for the 5 total spots by March 2022.

Those that have qualified for the play-offs include: Algeria, DR Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria & Senegal. The final matchups will be determined via a draw.
