Nigeria’s Super Eagles won Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane 3 – 1 in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 encounter at Stade Roumdé Adjia in Garoua, Cameroon, on Saturday 15 January 2022.

This assures Super Eagles a place in the AFCON Round of 16. Also, the Super Eagles have now won their opening two matches to an AFCON in consecutive tournaments for the very first time in history, having failed to win their first match in 4 of their previous 5 appearances (W1 D1 L3).

Nigeria and Sudan met for the 3rd time at the AFCON, but it’s their first encounter at the tournament in 46 years. Sudan won the first match 4-0 in the 1963 group phase whilst Nigeria won the second 1-0 in 1976. Nigeria have won 10 of their last 12 Africa Cup of Nations games, keeping 6 clean sheets.
