FOOTBALL: Saudi Team Breaks World Record for Longest Winning Streak

On Tuesday 12 March 2024, Riyadh-based Al Hilal Football Club shattered the world record for consecutive victories by defeating Al Ittihad in the Asian Champions League, for their 28th successional win.

The Saudi Pro League team won rivals Al Ittihad 2 – 0 to exceed the previous record of 27 straight wins achieved by Welsh Premier League club The New Saints in the 2016-17 season.

After the match, Al Hilal coach Jorge Fernando Pinheiro de Jesus said, “This is truly an incredible achievement and I want to thank everyone at the club for their part in this momentous winning record.”

Al Hilal is the most decorated club in Asia, with 66 official trophies.
