Nigeria has more than 517 established indigenous languages.

It is the 3rd most linguistically diverse country in the world, after Papua New Guinea (840 languages) and India (707).

The major native languages in Nigeria are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Fulfulde, Ijaw, Edo, Ibibio, Karai-Karai, Kupa, Kanuri, Tiv, Idoma, Igala, and Nupe.
